Birth is an

What is a doula?
A doula is a birth companion—you might say a BBF, a birth best friend!
But why would you need this?
Birth requires complete surrender to the body’s innate intelligence. Against its will, our rational brain is pushed to the backseat, and our animal brain demands to take the wheel. In this fully embodied yet vulnerable state, it’s important to have a birth professional present to protect your peace and enrich your experience. Because when you feel safe in your environment, you feel safe in your body, giving it permission to relax, open, and release.
This labor of love necessitates all your attention. The less you have to think, the better.
A doula is the guardian of the vibes, a servant and adoring fan, bringing you back into the moment, continually reminding you that your body knows what to do, and all you have to do is be there.
When trust is present, fear dissolves.
Who I Am
On an unsuspecting day in 2009, Ricki Lake's documentary, The Business of Being Born opened up my eyes to the myriad ways in which matriarchal wisdom, knowledge, and stories have been stolen from birthers around the world. I’ve been a birth enthusiast and advocate ever since, committed to changing the culture around birth, and restoring empowerment and intimacy in the birthing room.
I’m a mom, a writer, an artist, and a doula, trained in childbirth education and lactation support. I was a placenta encapsulation specialist for five years, offering postpartum presence to families in the tender days after birth, and dubbed “Placenta Bandit” by The Dallas Observer. My clients and I agreed that Placenta Hero was much more appropriate. Click here if you want a peek at what that cutely controversial lady was up to. Add a heaping scoop of certified yoga and meditation, and what you get is work that is rooted in intuition, movement, juicy feminine vibes and absolute confidence in your body to work for the experience you’re seeking.
Birth is the most gangster thing a person can do. Let’s treat it that way, and make sure you feel pampered and held through the most transcendent experience of your life.
