Twin Cities Cesarean Rates by Hospital

The best indicator for the outcome and satisfaction of your birth is where you’re having your baby.

What kind of birth do you want? Would you like to have your baby in the water? Are you hoping to have an unmedicated birth, or do you look forward to having an epidural? Whether you have a detailed birth plan, or you simply know you’d rather not have a c-section, this data is a good place to start. 2022 seems to be the most recently compiled data on Twin Cities hospitals, so ask your provider what their personal rates are, as well as the rates of the hospital. You could also say something like “Out of the last 10 births you attended, how many of those resulted in cesareans?” It’s your own little crystal ball. Utilize it.

Here is a list of other questions you could ask your provider.

The increase in cesareans in two years is alarming. We’re looking at you, Ridgeview, Waconia. Sheesh. If you are committed to having your baby at one of these hospitals, particularly those whose rates are above the Twin Cities average, have a birth plan, get a doula, and train your partner to advocate fiercely if the going gets tough.

For my own sociological purposes, I would love it if you shared your provider/hospital rates in the comment section! I’m curious to see what providers are self-reporting.
